After recieving my questionaire back filled in with what a random group of sixth formers would want from my magazine i am able to create my magazine knowing what things would make it popular and interesting to sixth formers.
I first asked 'what site would be the best for the front cover photo?' and gave examples for them to choose from. From the responce i recieved the most popular site was the front of the school then second was in front of the sixth form block, then in the quad and last with the least amount of people wanting it was in the corridoor. From this i have decided i will either use the site at the front of the school or the sixth form block as they was the most popular and they also look smart and straight away show that it is a magazine for a school.
When asking 'What should i include in my magazine?' i gave the options of exam tips, teacher/student gossip, GCSE results and subjects. I guessed before handing out my questionaire that student/teacher gossip would be most popular from hearing what my friends said and what i would prefer myself. I predicted correct as most people did want to see that in the magazine. Secondly people wanted to exam tips which i didnt expect as much because i thought that results would be more popular. A few people wanted to see GCSE results and very few wanted to see subjects. This gives me the idea that i should definately include student/teacher gossip in my magazine and probably include exam tips as this is what the students i asked wanted the most.
After analysing the rest of my results i found that the most popular name for my magazine should be either woods weekly or beaverwood news, I prefer woods weekly because it is different to usual magazine names and i think that beaverwood news is boring and too original. When asking what seasonal theme would be ebst for my magazine my feedback told me that summer and christmas would be best because most people chose these, i think i prefer summer because i like using colours that represent summer like yellow and blue rather than colours that represent christmas such as green and red.

Avoid using words like 'random' when referring to your audience sample, unless you mean this in the technical sense - and if so, try to explain this. E.g. 'Because I want my magazine to appeal to a cross-section of the sixth form population, I decided to select a random sample to ensure that my findings reflected a wide variety of views and preferences...'
ReplyDeleteBe careful asking questions about themes, as remember, this will ultimately be dictated by the time of publication (You wouldn't have a Valentine's edition published in July, for example). Do you see how it may have been better to make this a yes/no question - 'Would you be more likely to buy a magazine if it reflected the season or time of year?'
