After recieving my questionaire back filled in with what a random group of sixth formers would want from my magazine i am able to create my magazine knowing what things would make it popular and interesting to sixth formers.
I first asked 'what site would be the best for the front cover photo?' and gave examples for them to choose from. From the responce i recieved the most popular site was the front of the school then second was in front of the sixth form block, then in the quad and last with the least amount of people wanting it was in the corridoor. From this i have decided i will either use the site at the front of the school or the sixth form block as they was the most popular and they also look smart and straight away show that it is a magazine for a school.

When asking 'What should i include in my magazine?' i gave the options of exam tips, teacher/student gossip, GCSE results and subjects. I guessed before handing out my questionaire that student/teacher gossip would be most popular from hearing what my friends said and what i would prefer myself. I predicted correct as most people did want to see that in the magazine. Secondly people wanted to exam tips which i didnt expect as much because i thought that results would be more popular. A few people wanted to see GCSE results and very few wanted to see subjects. This gives me the idea that i should definately include student/teacher gossip in my magazine and probably include exam tips as this is what the students i asked wanted the most.

After analysing the rest of my results i found that the most popular name for my magazine should be either woods weekly or  beaverwood news, I prefer woods weekly because it is different to usual magazine names and i think that beaverwood news is boring and too original. When asking what seasonal theme would be ebst for my magazine my feedback told me that summer and christmas would be best because most people chose these, i think i prefer summer because i like using colours that represent summer like yellow and blue rather than colours that represent christmas such as green and red.

I like this because you can straight away see what the magazine if for, firstly because the title is 'My School' so it is obvious that it is a school magazine, also the girl in the main picture is wearing a school uniform, this is probably the first thing that grasps your attention. I like that they used green as the main colour because it is a neutral colour, it isn't really stereotyped as being a colour for girls or boys so from this we can guess that the school is mixed. The girl in the photo looks young so we assume that the magazine is for a primary school also it says 'New Beginnings' this could mean children when they first begin at school which links to primary. I like that it has the price on the front in an interesting eye catching way because it isn't just written normally it has the green star around it which also links to primary school as it would appeal to younger children. Alike my last magazine i analysed i don't really like that the picture isnt completely central and there is more text on one side than on the other, but then again i can understand that it might be harder to get a photo of a young child and keeping her completely central in it.

This school magazine will help my with designing my own school magazine because this looks as if it was also created by a student, it shows me what i need to include on the front, for example, the price and title of the magazine. From this cover i would guess that the magazine is for a boys school as the photo is of a boy and the main colours of the magazine are stereotypically male colours. This cover gives me the impression it is for the sixth form because it says 'GCSE results' this could be informing them what their year got in their previous year at school. Also the boy isn't wearing a school student uniform so this connotes that he is in sixth form. I like that the title is big and bold and relates to being a school magazine and i like that the front cover tells you abit about what is going to be inside for example 'Student Problems Your questions answered'. I personally dont like how the images and text is layed out on the page for example i would probably have the person in the main photo in the middle of the page not to the side and i would have text on either side of the person.

When taking the images for my front cover i need to take my theme into account. I need to choose a theme for example christmas, easter, firework night, halloween ect. After picking my theme i need to think about the ways that i could make sure that my theme is obvious by using props and significant colours. For example if i was to use a christmas theme it would probably most suit the colours green and red and i could use props such as tinsle and christmas themed items.

From my first thoughts i think i would quite like to use the theme of easter because i think i would enjoy and know well how to make it look suitable by using pastel colours and other images and text that would link to easter.
Today we learnt about how to present a school magazine, we spoke about having a theme, colour schemes and what our main front cover photo should look like. We then walked around the school looking at the different places that the photo could be taken at.

We first went to the sixth form block as it represents the school and is clean and tidy so would good a give impression. i liked this because it was quite bright, the building doesn't look dull so it would giv eht ephoto lots of colour and brightness. The only bad thing about this site was that there are bins in places that photos would be taken so before taking the photo you would have to move the bin. Next we went to the front of the school and thought about what we would need to think about while taking the photo, for example you would need to think about what time of the day it is so that people wern't walking around and would get in the way and also the sun should be on the place you want to take the photo to make the school look it's best. We then moved onto the schools main corridoor, we looked at what was in the corridoor and discussed why it would be suitable, we noticed that it had arches, lockers and it looked like a traditional school corridoor, this would make sure that the audience could clearly see that it is a school magazine. The last site was in the quad, i liked this because it has lots of greenery which makes the school look well presented and it would show that the school takes pride in it's appearance.

After seeing the sites i have decided i will try taking photos in different sites to experiment and then decide which site looks the best for the purpose of the photo. I will need to think about what time of day i will take my photos as i need to ensure that students wont be there so could be at home or in class, and also the sun in on that part of the building.

I like this school magazine front cover because it works well with it's purpose which is to represent the school. I like that it has pictures so that the magazine isn't too formal and would get the attention of students and their parents.
I will use this to help me with ideas when creating my own school magazine cover.
Today in my media lesson I found out that for my AS level media I am going to firstly plan and create a magazine for a school, I will need to learn how to do this as I haven't created a magazine before so throughout the course I will learn techiniques and programs to help me with designing my magazine. This magazine will have a front cover, contents page and original pages.

After doing this task I will then move on to creating a music themed magazine that will include a front cover, contents page and a couble page spread. I think this is an interesting task because i enjoy music and have an interest in it.
